ANNA WYPYCH (b. 1986) is one of those artists whose paintings become more interesting the more you know about her. A painter based in Gdynia, Poland, Wypych has always marched to the beat of her own drum and has never liked to blend in with the crowd. She reads copious amounts of poetry and philosophy, and concepts and ideas inspired by those readings or her own ruminations often become the starting point of her mesmerizing paintings. As a full-time artist who is also a mother and wife, Wypych typically paints women displaying multifaceted strengths, such as determination, passion, and positivity.

Artist Statement
After graduating with honors and a master’s degree from the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, I started my creative path with large-format multi-figure painting in which I was not afraid to go beyond realism (2007-2012) and often used duplications or transformations. I created complicated arrangements of figures that metaphorically showed ideas and emotions. Over time, I reduced the size of the paintings and the number of models, and in subsequent works I focused more and more on a new theme – inner strength and positivity. „I draw inspiration from what I see around me, and my personal thoughts and experiences are the starting point for searching and reflecting on the human condition.” In this long period, portraits of women with a strong gaze and strong character prevailed (work in 2013-2021).
Now my creative path has several paths, because I like to work in series. I often return to the theme of a strong woman with an expressive look, but also constant in my work are paintings with the theme of sea / water, fire and duplication. I also happen to have shorter series where I revolve around a certain theme, such as freedom in „Boson”; I am experiencing a specific emotion „Be/have” or is focused on a mood/thought „Feast” and „Ero”.
In my work, I allow myself total freedom and I am not afraid to change or paint anything.

Anna Wypych concentrates on the human condition and her powerful women portraits show a variety of inner strength which can be found in people seen from the positive point of view. Wypych based in Poland, paints realistic portraits in the traditional oil technique, but her art also contains elements of surrealism, hyperrealism, pure imagination, and free expression.

Her paintings are in permanent collections of the European Museum of Modern Art, Barcelona in Spain, Muskegon Museum of Art, Muskegon MI, USA, the National Museum in Gdansk, Museum of City Gdansk, Museum of city Gdynia, Poland. She presented her works at many juried exhibitions and was the finalist in many world-class art competitions as: the Annual Art Renewal Center Salon, The Figurativas, The Modportrait, The BP Portrait Award. Her painting was on the cover of International Artist (12/2020) and her paintings have been published in such magazines as American Art Collector, PoetsArtists, Revista Ophelia, Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine, The Guide Artists, Klassik Magazine, Hyperrealism Magazine. The Paintings of Anna Wypych are included in prestigious collections such as The Bennett Collection, The Basil Alkazzi & Halima Nalecz Purchase Foundation, the Marie Marek Pienkowski Foundation, Art Foundation of Ergo Hestia group. She has presented her work in galleries and museums in Europe and the USA. She lives and works in Gdynia, Poland.

Artist Statement – o mojej twórczości kilka słów.
Po ukończeniu z wyróżnieniem oraz tytułem magistra Akademii Sztuk Pięknych w Gdańsku, zaczęłam drogę twórcza od wielkoformatowego wielofigurowego malarstwa w którym nie bałam się wychodzić poza realizm (2007-2012) i często stosowałam powielenia czy przekształcenia. Tworzyłam skomplikowane układy postaci które metaforycznie, pokazywały idee i emocje. Z czasem redukowałam wielkość obrazów i liczbę modelek i w kolejnych pracach coraz bardziej skupiałam się na nowym motywie – sile wewnętrznej, i pozytywności. “Czerpie inspirację z tego co widzę wokół siebie, a moje osobiste myśli i doświadczenia są punktem startowych do poszukiwań i rozważań o kondycji człowieka”. W tym długim okresie dominowały portrety kobiet z silnym spojrzeniem i mocnym charakterem (twórczość w latach 2013-2021).
Teraz moja droga twórcza ma kilka ścieżek, gdyż lubię pracować w seriach. Często wracam do motywu, silnej kobiety z wyrazistym spojrzeniem, ale też stałe w mojej twórczości są obrazy z motywem morza/wody i ognia oraz powielenia. Zdarzają mi się też krótsze serie gdzie krążę wokół pewnego motywu , jak np wolność w „Boson”; przezywam jakieś konkretne emocje „Be/have” lub koncentruje się na nastroju/myśli „Feast” i „Ero”..
W swojej twórczości pozwalam sobie na wolność totalna i nie boję się niczego zmienić czy namalować.
